Palm Springs Gem - Holiday House

As I am writing this post, my mom, sister, and I are flying back to Chicago from Palm Springs, California.  It was an awesome weekend getaway and all thanks goes to Holiday House which I consider to be the newest gem of Palm Springs. Read on to find out about this amazing hotel and hear about all the fun we had in the sun.

Change of Plans

We originally intended to stay at the Avalon Hotel in Palm Springs for all three nights.  Let’s just say we were disappointed when we checked into our room. (The rest of property looked very nice.) It just didn’t have what we needed for us to enjoy our stay.  We had booked a regular room instead of one of their bungalows which we hear are wonderful. It just wasn’t worth the expensive price we were paying. The hotel manager was gracious enough to let us out from the next two booked nights and we were sincerely grateful.

Holiday House Palm Springs

As we considered leaving the Avalon, a friend of my sister’s recommended Holiday House. He explained that it just opened last year and had the cool retro style of Palm Springs that we were looking for.  We called and were in luck because they had two rooms available. (They only allow 2 in each room.) Mom ended up getting the smaller room and Karen and I shared a large room.

It was love at first sight when we walked into Holiday House.  All the decor (which was in several shades of blue) reflects midcentury modern style which has a very laid-back vibe. I would love to have my house look like this hotel! The staff was so friendly and made us feel right at home. Immediately when we walked in, they gave us love beads with a glass of rose’. The idea of these beads is to share with others if someone compliments you on them. They are sharing the love which happens to be my focus for this year as you remember from this post. I ended up buying a couple of more beads because I will give them away but hoping to keep one to remember this amazing trip.

I think what impressed us the most was the thoughtfulness that was behind every detail as well as their simple approach to service. We were completely obsessed with the beautiful decor and amenities in our rooms. Loved the Malin + Goetz bath products in the bathroom and they had some fun, quirky items to purchase that were a part of the full-stocked bar. (I was partial to the silly putty and slinky.) There are no tv’s in the rooms which was nice so you weren’t distracted from the amazing surroundings.

  • Service with a smile

Palm Springs Restaurants

There was no shortage of great restaurants in Palm Springs. We went to Cheeky’s for breakfast. I highly recommend this place but make sure you have time to wait for a table. My sister had the most amazing pancakes that melted in your mouth. The cheddar scallion hash was tasty as well.

Our favorite dinner was at a place called Farm. It was probably was the most romantic restaurant I have ever been to. The owner traveled in Provence, France so she wanted to bring that feeling back to the states. We were wowed by the food and the ambiance. I adored the outdoor patio that was beautifully landscaped like the south of France. The icing on the cake was the talented singer that serenaded us during our meal.

Palm Springs Activities

We wanted to experience the gorgeous nature in the area so we set out to do a hike in the Indian Canyons. We did an easy trail that was extremely scenic with its rock formations, fan palms, and a bubbling creek. It was called the Andreas Canyon Loop. This is a must-do activity!

What girls’ getaway would be complete without a spa day? Our spa of choice was at the JW Marriot in Palm Desert which is the largest spa on the west coast. This was planned for our last full day in Palm Springs.  We hung out at the pool, had lunch, and then enjoyed body scrubs, facials, and massages. I especially enjoyed the brightening mask that was at the end of my facial. Take me back!

All in all, it was the perfect weekend getaway with my mom and sister.  If you ever go to Palm Springs, you must stay at the Holiday House. I couldn’t think of a better place to experience the throwback style of this area with modern amenities. Thanks Holiday House!
